Kid Fest expands to two days of Derby Days

By Linda Stinnett

The highly popular Kid Fest will expand to both days of Derby Days this year.

“Kid Fest has been such a beloved part of Derby Days it made sense to extend it into Sunday, especially with it being Father’s Day,” said Allison Moeding, board member and spokesperson for Derby Days.

Kid Fest will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, June 16, and noon to 4 p.m. on Sunday, June 17, on the south grounds of Derby High School.

Many favorite parts of Kid Fest will return, including Jaki McElroy’s caricature drawings, Brent Dillinger - the YoYo man, Chris Connor - magician and balloon artist, face painting, a petting zoo, the Mother Goose Day Care train, special appearances by DIGI for Cox Communications, Daren the Lion for DARE and Derby Police, and many others.

New items this year will be a concert by Mr. Stinky Feet, Jim Cosgrove, at 2 p.m. on Sunday. He is always a popular entertainer during the library’s summer events, so his fans will want to catch him at this appearance.

Also new are four presentations of Exploration Place’s Live Science Show: Kick It with Chemistry. Kids will be able to discover what happens when chemicals are heated and cooled down and they can experience the chemical chameleon, never-ending foam, liquid nitrogen and much more.

As always, $3 buttons for admittance to all Derby Days events are required.
