A Meet and Greet for candidates in the Aug. 7 primary is the first in a series of candidate events planned by the Derby Chamber of Commerce.
The Chamber is hosting the events to give the business community and general public the opportunity to meet candidates running for elected office in the August primary and November general elections.
The following candidates have been invited to attend all three events:
U.S. Representative District 4: Mike Pompeo, Republican, and Robert Tillman and Esau A. Freeman, Democrats (either Tillman or Freeman will be eliminated from the race in the primary).
State Senator: Ty Masterson, Republican, District 16; Dick Kelsey, Republican, and Dan Kerschen, Republican, both District 26 (one of the candidates will be eliminated in the primary); and Keith Humphrey, Democrat, and Mike Petersen, Republican, both District 28.
State Representative: Jim Howell, Republican, and Barbara Lynn Wells, Democrat, both District 81; and Pete DeGraaf, Republican, District 82
The following candidates have been invited to attend the Meet and Greet event only on Aug. 2:
District Attorney: Marc A. Bennett and Kevin O’Connor, both Republican.
Sedgwick County Sheriff: Bob Hinshaw and Jeff Easter, both Republican, and Jefrey Weinman, Democrat.
State School Board: Kathy Busch and Walt Chappell, District 8, and Jim McNiece, District 10.
The Chamber has traditionally hosted these events to encourage people to register to vote and become better informed residents. This is also an opportunity for business people to meet with candidates to discuss concerns or needs relating to business.
The public is invited to attend any of the events.
