After months of anticipation, Menards has made its first official move toward making a Derby store a reality.

The company has submitted an application for rezoning and a preliminary plat of the property it has under contract at Patriot and Buckner in Derby. City Director of Community Development Charlie Brown told the Planning Commission on Thursday that both issues will be on their July 5 agenda.

Currently the company has contracts on property, and the final closing of the sale of the properties is contingent on successful approval of construction approval. Property under contract includes the entire Old Ranch Commercial Addition and a five-acre homesite southwest of Buckner and Patriot.

The company has applied for zoning changes because the property it is working to purchase are different zoning levels. It has requested two commercial zoning levels, Brown said.

The company has also submitted a preliminary plat which reworks previously platted roads and establishes outparcels for other businesses.
